I have great respect for people who are struggling in their life with an overall lack of satisfaction and motivation. I will help you identify those “triggers” that cause your low mood, and to develop coping skills to help you feel better. My clients report that they are able to sense and identify mood fluctuations as a result of our therapy sessions. Clients that are on medication can expect a team approach to their wellness, as I consult with physicians. If you are reading this right now, you or someone you care about is struggling with the ability to sustain important relationships. If you are currently feeling suicidal, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Kevin Fleming Ph.D.

Coach/Change Agent/Consultant

New Haven, Connecticut 06508

Grey Matters International, Inc. and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D. handles depression and other emotional disorders in a very unique way. Most of therapy or counseling processes utilize validation, unconditional positive regard, and reframing as common techniques to get someone to heal from their depression. Though this can be helpful, it rarely fixes the core problem behind it and for tough cases we then refer them usually to a psychiatrist for medication which can have tons of side effects. Instead, why not try a natural and arguably more effective way to not just change your mind, but change the brain--where the depression is rooted. Contact us at kevin@kevinflemingphd.com.

Joyce Colburn, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

225 Main St., Westport, Connecticut 06880

My approach to depression therapy begins with helping clients understand it is a treatable illness. I assess their symptoms (sleep, eating problems, lack of focus, irritability, anxiety, sadness) to determine their condition (major depression, situational depression, dysphoria). I also determine whether medication (administered under the supervision of a medical professional) may be necessary in addition to talk therapy. I employ compassionate listening to understand each client's issues and the root causes of their condition and develop a tailored treatment plan.

When someone is living with depression it can feel like carrying a heavy weight or living under a dark cloud of isolation. It's often the case that an individual is unaware they are actually depressed. If you're uncertain of the signs and symptoms see this link: http://www.mentalhealthamerica.net/mental-health-screen/patient-health Treatment for depression can include a variety of methods. In my practice, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy and Mindfulness treatment models are most effective. These therapeutic strategies can be very powerful - not only in treating the symptoms of depression but they also enhance a greater sense of worth and well-being.

I believe that depression is anger turned inward. I would use psycotherapy to delve into the reasons for the anger. Where did it originate and discuss methods to use on a daily basis to resolve this anger through a spiritual life and gratitudes. I would also take a family history and have the patient get a medical exam to identify the possiblity of it being a genetic disorder or physical malady. Concurring with the medical doctor or naturopath I would discuss methods to use through diet and exercise, meditation and social outlets to deal on a daily basis with the depression.
