I look at some of the characteristic distortions in the way depressed people think, for example, challenging the sense that their depression is unchanging when in fact they have periods of feeling okay. I work to activate people. People who are depressed are often unmotivated and isolate themselves, but being active and spending time with people tends to alleviate depression. I help people to look at their history, and the patterns in their family that have impacted on their being depressed. Put together, these approaches allow people to find ways to feel better.
