Depression is the unhealthy cousin of sadness. You can be okay when you're sad; when you're depressed, you're not okay. When I work with people experiencing depression, sometimes I help them to move themselves from sadness to depression. Depression affects many individuals, and often, individuals are not aware that depression is causing them to feel bad and they may struggle to understand what is happening to cause them to feel sad, to not want to get out of bed, to lose interests in things they once enjoyed, or to withdraw from family and friends and the people they love the most. For some, thoughts of harming themselves or even ending their life seems like the only solutions to the misery and agony they experience. I will help individuals learn to recognize and understand symptoms of depression and how to better manage their mood by learning to identify stressors and triggers and then learning to apply Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral strategies to help alleviate depression.
