My approach to depression depends greatly on the presenting problem as people become depressed for a variety of situations (anxiety, stress, existential/meaning, grief ). After assessing & evaluating a course of treatment with the client, treatment may involve cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation techniques, Logotherapy to explore life's meaning, or perhaps an exploration of spiritual depression. Of course, if the depression is judged to be major depression referral to a physician's for medical intervention may be explored.

Depression is one of the most common reasons and highly treatable conditions to seek therapy. This is a safe space in which I seek to understand and to assist in healing towards a hopeful future. You may find your concentration, sleep, and weight are effected. It is NOT a sign of weakness. Nor can it be wished away. It has been proven time and again that talk therapy improves, stalls, or halts depression. For much more information contact me today! I will be happy to consult with you free over the phone.

The Experiential model for working with and through depression is focused on the treatment outcome of developing client's strength, autonomy, capacity for change, and self-compassion. The experiential process is structured for the client to gain awareness to thoughts, feelings, and behaviors separately but at the same time in the present "here and now" activity or task; the client is thereby able to recognize a holistic sense of "being" in the moment and improve emotional control of negative emotions like anger, shame, and fear.

Most people, at some point in their lives, experience depression. Our lives become overwhelming to the point that even simple, every day tasks seem difficult to overcome. Counseling provides an outlet for people to express their hurts and pain, allows them to gain insight to where their particular cycle of depression stems from and helps them find a light and hope in an otherwise dark world.

In working with depression I offer ways for you to understand the depression and the contributing factors. Together we identify those life factors that have caused the depression and find healthy ways to resolve it. We then reconstruct the thinking, attributes and behaviors associated with the depression. The purpose of this is to have you gain a sense of balance and control in your own life. We then create manageable coping skills that will allow you to identify the triggers and have a working plan to cope with the depression.

My approach to helping those struggling with depression is to offer a supportive environment of acceptance where one feels free to share their pain. I primarily use a Cognitive/Behavioral approach. In this approach I work with my clients to help them learn how to increase activities that have given them joy, such as calling a love one on the phone, going on a walk or bike ride in nature and decrease activities that make depression worse such as substance use or watching too much TV. I also collaborate with my clients to help them identify and challenge their automatic negative thoughts about themselves, and replace those negative thoughts with positive and adaptive thoughts and beliefs.
