I leverage a solution-based approach to clearly outline your primary challenge, work through an exercise to meditate on and define your future state and then work over 8 sessions to achieve it via homework and 1:1 sessions. Depression shows up in many forms. Depression can look like low mood and low interest in activities or even feelings of hopelessness, trouble concentrating and thoughts of self harm. However your depressive symptoms are showing up, working together we can work to heal your heart space by intentionally creating plan that will enable you to enhance your emotional wellbeing.

Clients who come to me feeling sad, low, depressed will get understanding, caring, and help in understanding what might be behind what they are feeling, and practical strategies, steps, and techniques to understand and support themselves and learn how to begin to think, feel and function healthier, stronger, and better with more energy, focus and motivation.

We all feel sad or “down” occasionally, however, if someone feels sad all or most of the time, has a loss of interest in their favorite activities of life, feels worthless or guilty for no reason, feels life is empty and meaningless, he or she may be in the midst of a serious depression. A good rule of thumb is that, if someone feels this way every day for two weeks, it’s time to call a therapist. Together we can properly evaluate if you or your loved one is suffering from major depression or Low-Grade Depression (Dysthymia), whether the depression may be recurrent or may be part of a Bipolar Disorder, and how it can be helped by therapy and/or medication

As a veteran psychotherapist who has treated many clients with depression, proper assessment is essential that can include coordinating care with a physician. Depression can range from being draining to being completely debilitating. Wherever you land on that spectrum, so much of depression involves negative thinking of oneself, others, and the world. Talk therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy are research-backed successful tools in providing support for those experiencing depression. I use talk therapy to provide a space for clients to share their feelings and things that either lead to or are affected by their feelings of depression. Cognitive behavioral therapy helps identify and shift negative thinking patterns as well as behaviors, which ultimately creates a more positive cycle in ones life and decreases symptoms of depression.

Understanding depression as anger at past events can help clients to understand and gain incite as to why they no longer care about life in the present moment. Often anxiety accompanies depression as worry about the future makes thoughts overactive. By using acceptance and commitment along with day to day wellness methods, we can work together to transition you back into looking forward to living your life in the moment as best as we all can. It is not an easy task to manage our lives successfully but staying stuck will only bring more regret.

I provide clients with a safe place to explore the root causes of their depression. Within the therapeutic relationship, we will also examine how the individual's thoughts, actions and feelings are connected to and feeding into their depression. We will work on breaking these negative cycles and start positive more adaptive ways of thinking, and acting to improve their mood.

What makes depression tricky is that it manifests in brain chemistry as well as emotion. Deciding which came first is often a chicken and the egg question. Working together, we will explore the roots of the depression (even if you think you don't know what they are) and treat both the symptoms of the depression as well as the root cause (which I promise you are present somewhere).

I have compassion for couples who come in when one or both are struggling with an overall lack of satisfaction and motivation. I help couples identify those “triggers” that affect their relationship and cause low mood, and to develop coping skills to self-regulate. My couples' clients report that they are able to sense and identify relationship mood fluctuations as a result of our therapy sessions. I also refer them to individual therapy providers so they can get support outside of our couples' sessions.
