Depression can be a devastating point of being, and we first will hear your experience and point of view. Using ONLINE tools like video conferencing, email and text supports, I will support you in expressing your feelings, and will either talk or use art making tools, or employ both in this important first step. Next we will look at how you want to show up in the world, how do you want to be in your life? Working backwards, we develop a plan to help you move forward and start on your healing path.

Depression results from a chemical imbalance in the brain. It is not the result of a personal weakness or lack of coping skills. The impairment is real and can result in feeling sad, anxious, overwhelmed and in some cases suicidal. Fortunately, depression can be treated with both medication and counseling; the combination usually being most effective. Counselling can help persons who experience depression in providing an outlet for voicing frustrations and obstacles, identifying support avenues, leaning new coping skills and exploring the most recent avenues of treatment. Counselling offers a non-judgemental and confidential sounding board.

In this approach I also use Constructive Psychology and Nutrition because research has shown that diet and genetics are both rish factors in developing depression, as well there are also factors in sensitivity to environmental stressors. The interesting fact, in relations to diet and genes is how gene expression is influenced by environmental factors, such as diet. A example of how diet affects our mood is the brain itself, which is 60% fat and one-third of all fatty acids are of the polyunsaturated variety. So doing a diet assessment of my client and getting them on a healthy diet and increasing their omega 3 intake and also teaching them how to meditate improves their mental wellbeing.

Depression can be deeply painful, robbing you of energy, motivation, and hope. It creates a negative view of life, your self, and your future. It typically disrupts sleep patterns, appetite, emotions, and your thinking ability. I use the clinical practice of cognitive behavioural therapy to help people regain healthy control over their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and reclaim a sense of influence over their life style and life situation's. Coaching you to refocus, set small daily goals, celebrate your successes, and learn new behavioral and thinking skills can take time but the good news is that once you have acquired these skills you have them for life.

At the Centre For Expressive Therapy, I offer counselling to adults and children suffering from depression. I use Holistic Expressive Therapy that helps to further explore difficult issues that words sometimes cannot reach. Within the safety of the therapeutic relationship, images are created through drawing, writing, painting, collage, sand play, and photography. These images are then reflected upon for the purpose of finding solutions to underlying issues. My therapy methods help individuals of all ages to not only cope with their life challenges but to learn and grow from them.

There is a lot of discussion about "overcoming" or "ending" depression but what if these symptoms are actually warning signs that are designed to tell us that something in your life needs to change? Understanding these signs better can help people to move toward living a life that feels more meaningful rather than continuing to avoid or ignore the difficult thoughts and feelings that reinforce depression.
