The work I do with eating disorders is a highly compassionate approach, exploring with the client what the stressors have been in their lives to bring about this condition which can be very painful, debilitating and affect the entire family. We are complex people and getting to know the various aspects, thoughts, feelings of the client that leads to disordered eating can often bring about resolution and restore wholenss and balance.

I will help you change your relationship with food. Emotional connections to food are life-long. We will be very patient in how we view each small success, while also preparing for setbacks when trying to change any behavior. Learning to tolerate and manage distressing emotions is essential to having a healthier food and/or body relationship. We will shift from the obsessive thinking and behaviors patterns which have left little time for anything else. Contact me to discuss how counseling can work for you.

I do not abide by universally accepted BMI's or stereotypes regarding dress size. A client should be happy with their figure the way they are. If not, they must curb their addiction to food. Portion control seems to work well along with music therapy. It used to be thought that listening to the radio boosts appetite at mealtimes. By the same token, discontinuing the music can help a heavy person reduce.

Hello..I worked in a residential treatment facility working with females and eating disorders. There is a lot of science and rational regarding eating disorders, along with individual hypothesis people have formed throughout the years, however, change happens between the client and the therapist and the trust that exists between the two parties. I don't claim to be an expert, however, I do claim I can help you, if you let me.

While most eating disorder issues are treated by cognitive behavioral methodologies or specialized outpatient/inpatient programs, Grey Matters International and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, PhD provide relief first and foremost for the brain of one suffering from an eating disorder----without giving them medication. We believe that the neural circuitries responsible for the compulsive behaviors with eating are not necessarily only a neurotransmitter issue but of overused neural networks that affect the harmonization, balance, and decisions of the whole brain. Contact kevin@kevinfleminphd.com or 877-606-6161 to learn more about this safe and effective alternative.

For some people compulsive eating or dieting is just a way to get rid of bad feelings. The problem is that the bad feelings always come back. Compulsive and addictive behaviors - like obsessive and compulsive disorder, gambling, sexual addictions, eating disorders, cutting, etc. - can work very much like alcohol and substance abuse. They are ways of controlling strong emotional reactions of anxiety, anger, sadness, loneliness or guilt. I use 90-minute and 3-HOUR SESSIONS to identify and fully resolve the roots of your emotional reactions so that they no longer trigger the urge to self-medicate.

Our early caregiver’s attunement and responsiveness to our hunger shapes our trust in the world to value us and nurture us. Although we may mature and develop on many dimensions of personal effectiveness we may for many reasons remain blind to and cling to reactive patterns of eating that reflect outmoded and ineffective strategies for regulating our self esteem, our emotions, managing stress, preserving valued attachments, etc. Within the context of a secure therapy alliance we can observe, reflect on, put words to emotional hunger and neutralize your fears of healthy strategies to feed this hunger. Eating will then be put in perspective and cease to monopolize your time and energies at the ....

Eating disorders are about more than just the food one eats. At the Lukin Center, our therapists work with clients to target the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors associated with eating. Clients often have thoughts about their body and the way they look, feel the need to control their caloric intake in order to be perfect, or create a number of rituals surrounding food. Our therapists use cognitive behavioral therapy, one of the best treatments for eating disorders, in order to treat the person and not just the disease.
