As a Nutrition and Wellness coach I try to assist people with living a more Healthful Lifestyle. I have spent much time focusing on clients with compulsive eating, emotional eating, and obesity issues. I also work with client who are relatively balanced in weight, but their eating choice is unhealthy raising their risk for diabetes in mid-life. I have found some modifications to our eating and activity level can make a world of difference.

People are often beleaguered by their ongoing failures to overcome an eating disorder, yet a Solution Focused approach to addressing and healing from such a painful condition can give a people feelings of competence and power or control. When highly valued tasks are accomplished, then, over time, they can develop a more positive level of self-esteem and self-worth. This approach to therapy focuses on the client's own mastery experiences related to eating/ restricting/ purging behaviors. Thus an individual can experience a positive ripple effect that can spill over and influence other aspects of one's life.

Eating disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating are rooted in inability to handle emotions of fear and anger, and developing weight and food issues as coping mechanisms. EDs can have life-threatening consequences for females and males. Treatment focuses on learning new coping skills for dealing with stress, negativity, emotion regulation, and awareness of changes in attitude, spiraling thinking patterns, beliefs and choice making. Meditation, deep breathing, interpersonal and experiential psychotherapy are also part of treatment, to complement work with nutritionist for meal planning, nutritional basics and relapse prevention as necessary.
