As a trauma-informed psychotherapist, I assist my clients in uncovering the traumatic events that have spurred their addictions and behaviors, including eating disorders. I am more interested in discovering and resolving the core issue, and assuming your health is not in immediate danger, we may not speak about your eating habits right away. I rely upon EMDR, a highly researched, scientifically rooted treatment modality, to resolve the emotional impact of traumatic events. Also, I coordinate care with clients' medical doctors, including psychiatrists and internists. Please call for a free consultation to learn more about my counseling approach to treating eating disorders.

Eating disorders cover a wide range of behavior. This could be from simply eating too much to the more complex conditions of anorexia or bulimia. We have a special compassion for and an expertise in helping people that are struggling with eating disorders. Treatment plans include discipline strategies to change our thinking process about eating which results in a change of behavior. We also work with people who have experienced some type of emotional trauma which is usually a root cause of the more serious eating disorders. We work to find that root cause and not just deal with the symptoms of a condition.

What I offer in the context of eating disorders is the emotional and relational aspects of healing. When a person is not in crisis, I can help with understanding the source of the struggle, and offering a path out of the emotional and relational patterns that create an unhealthy relationship with food. I will help you gain coping skills and new patterns of relationship, and process through emotional barriers so you can move forward in healing.
