I believe that eating disorders do not exist independently; I strongly believe that there are other issues such as depression and/or low self esteem, with the eating disorder being the only area where the individual feels a sense of control. My approach would be to assist the individual in working through the other stressors, decreasing the need for control through eating disorders. I would encourage medical care as needed. I
