Where moms self-abnegate and children are wrong, family counselling helps reduce tension. Casting or assuaging wrongful blame rerely helps; it's considered much more beneficial to access restitution via admission of guilt by the offender. It takes a big person. to admit he was wrong!!!! Confession, affidavit, apology, rescinsion, abdication, exhonneration, invalidation, and denial often work. Where denial can be seen as a cop-out - particularly when there is a loss of life, denial o culpability where children cast blamesgo the mother an be iewed as good.

Family therapy looks at the entire family system—parents, children, extended family members—to identify strengths and problematic behaviours. I collaborate with families on strategies for utilizing their own capabilities for resolving problems, and on developing effective communication and problem-solving skills for preventing conflicts. I specialize in working with families of teenagers, which is an age that can be challenging for both the teenagers and their parents.

I use the belief that our family relationships determine to a significant extent our ability to form healthy relationships. We each carry ways that limit is in intimate relationship based on adaptations that are unconscious, and powerfully limit flexibility. I work to free individuals, and couples from these family patterns that keep us stuck.

family therapy and family systems is truly my specialty. A family history of drinking alcohol for example is important for the client to be aware of in regards to their potential to become alcoholics. Also, patterns of anger, divorce, and abuse can be passed on from generation to generation, and it is important for the client to become aware and identify patterns verbally with the therapist to process and acknowledge these patterns for future generations. I also invite family members to be part of the session, as long as this is agreed upon by the client.

Families quite often are going through various changes simultaneously, some more impacting than others. Babies are born, family members get married and may bring new families with them, siblings move away, and parents get older. I like to work with families and support them as they navigate and manage these changes, and continue to redefine their relationships with one another.

Family is a special group of people who usually love, like, and often tolerate each other. Sometimes this unit can experience some issues that negatively affect their daily activities and interactions. During our counseling sessions, we will discuss and identify family dynamics, problems, roles, and values to gain insight and better understanding of how to make this unit more cohesive and stable. To schedule an appointment with Sheiketha, call TR Counseling & Wellness at 203-819-7650.

My approach explores the family dynamics that keep people from living authentic lives. Unresolved issues from the past may cause the heart to shut down. If left unattended, this disruption in the flow of love is carried across generations, ripples into the shadows of the family landscape, often emerging as illness, emotional difficulties, and broken relationships. All family members are invited to attend and together we work through the issues in a safe caring environment.

Understanding your family, understanding the roles each family member plays as well as what your role is within your family can be some of the best work a person can do in order to be a more cohesive family unit. Most families struggle with how to make their families work in a more cohesive and harmonious manner. It takes work but it is well worth the investment.
