Looking for a change? Online counseling is convenient, effective, efficient, and confidential.
Family therapy looks at the entire family system—parents, children, extended family members—to identify strengths and problematic behaviours. I collaborate with families on strategies for utilizing their own capabilities for resolving problems, and on developing effective communication and problem-solving skills for preventing conflicts. I specialize in working with families of teenagers, which is an age that can be challenging for both the teenagers and their parents.

None of us grow up in a vacuum sealed container free of the influences of others. The most powerful influences are our family, both past and present. AND rarely is the distress leading a person to seek counseling in isolation from family. Typically the distress in drenched in relational dynamics. The most powerful and enduring change takes place in the context of relationships. Even if the family is not present for all counseling, the family perspective is critical to take into account. When family members can be present, counseling can often be the most productive. Larger families may require longer than typical sessions.

So much of what we enjoy in life involves family relationships. Sadly, family relationships can also be a source of great pain. Many people feel deep obligations to family members who are irresponsible and self-destructive. Others struggle to know how to relate to family members they simply don't enjoy being around. With my extensive background in family systems theory I'm often able to help persons make fresh decisions about family relationships.
