People who’ve experienced death or divorce may feel angry, depressed, empty, and/or alone. I take time with them to respect these feelings, and do not prescribe ways they “should” be feeling. Grief is associated with feelings of sadness, guilt, regret and anger, among others. Some people may experience a sense of meaninglessness and others can feel a sense of relief. Emotions are often surprising in their strength and different for everyone. There can be a sense of confusion on how to navigate and process grief. Grief is a natural response to loss. The emotional suffering you feel when something or someone you love is taken away can be overwhelming. The more significant the loss, the more intense the grief will be.
