My philosophy of therapy and change is that change comes from within. As a therapist, I ask a great deal in asking an individual to change, as change is an incredibly difficult task for everyone. The journey of change requires both the client and myself to work collaboratively throughout this journey. It is for this reason that the rapport between the client and myself is critical. I aim to provide all my clients with the space to explore their underlying feelings, thoughts, and behaviors so that they can engage in change.

When you think of grief- does the image of death or loss of a loved one come to mind? What about other types of loss- changes in life, missed opportunities, ending of relationships, noticing physical limitations to aging or health issues? Grief can be the underlying energy that makes use feel heavy, stagnant, frozen. In our work together, I hope to give you a space where you can process the complicated feelings related to grief and help you to move towards validating those experiences.

Grief is a process. Dr. Spada will stay with you throughout your process. Each individuals process is very different. Dr. Spada takes an individualized approach to grief work and will make sure she stays with you every step of they way. She will offer compassion, understanding and validation. During your time time of grief, Dr. Spada will provide you with tools and coping mechanisms to support you through your experience.

The range and intensity of emotions experienced as a result of a significant loss often make the grieving person feel like they are going crazy. You need a non-judgemental place to process the loss and the effect it has had and is having on your life, and to talk about what you are experiencing. You need someone who understands the devastation and its profound impact on you and who can help you pick up the pieces and gradually begin to imagine the future in a different way.

My approach with grief and loss issues is gentle and respectful of the clients feelings. I strive to help the client process their grief and loss utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and narrative therapy to process their loss and change their thought patterns. I meet the client where they are at in order to continue gently and In a respectful fashion.

Grief counseling helps people cope with grief and mourning following the loss of a loved one or due to major life changes that trigger feelings of grief (i.e. job loss or divorce). It provides a space for individuals to work through and process the complex emotions surrounding loss. Healthy grieving results in remembering the loss with a newfound sense of peace, rather than searing pain.

Suffering from grief and loss is difficult. I provide a safe space for the client to process the pain which brings to healing. Processing the pain includes feeling it in the physical body, recognizing it emotionally, welcoming it to be here as long as it needs and giving it space and room to be here without judgement or shame. The wound of loss doesn’t leave completely but the ache gets more manageable and less painful with time.
