There is no "fixing" grief. But counseling can help prevent normal grief from developing into major depression or other mental health conditions.

Grief is sorrow or mental suffering that is a result of a loss, affliction, regret, etc. Grief is a normal response to a loss or significant change. Talking to others about our grief allows us to heal quicker. Getting through our grief takes time. For some the bigger the loss the longer it takes to deal with our grief. In some cases a smaller loss could speed the grieving process and could take only a few hours, days or even weeks to get through it. For moderate loss the time could be months to a year and for severe loss the grieving could take much longer.
