I believe in the here and the now approaches to therapy, such as Reality, Person Centered, Solution Focused, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, however, sometimes it is beneficial to explore a client's past experiences to look at hurts, needs, behavior patterns, etc. in order to make positive changes in their current lives. The past does sometimes affect ones current behavior and attitude. It is necessary sometimes to hear a clients past to help them recover and rebuild from their hurts. To accept and let it go, realizing they are still lovable, worthwhile, and can be successful and happy. I use a thorough assessment and behavioral techniques to help validate and encourage clients.

Psychotherapy, often referred to as talk therapy is of then the first line of intervention for people suffering through life transitions, anxiety, depression or a loss. Talk therapy helps one to focus on the thoughts and actions that may have become a pattern of maladaptive coping skills. By reviewing life events that have shaped a person, there can be insight into new coping mechanisms that might be more adaptive.
