How long does therapy take? This is a question I am often asked and yet is so difficult to answer. So much depends on what you expect and want from their therapist. Some people want a to address a specific problem they are facing and others want and ongoing therapeutic relationship. Personally, I much prefer working with patients who are looking towards the longer term commitment. I love getting to know my patients and becoming the holder of their stories as I try to facilitate growth and change.

My clients often find me easy to talk to and say they feel comfortable with me, trusting quickly. This can make the psychotherapeutic process easier and more effective for my clients, especially if they are nervous or don’t know what to expect. Therapy with me can range from just talking casually with each other, leading to insights, increased self awareness, and processing through emotional issues, or it could be more intensive deeper therapy like EMDR.

My approach to psychotherapy is dependent on my clients feeling heard and understood by me. This is what creates safety as well as change. I become a mirror for you, one that is without judgment. I do short-term solutions-oriented therapy to help you think differently about yourself and your world and then develop skills to better deal with your issues from the past or to better deal with current areas of difficulty. We start by assessing problem areas, and then deciding together how best to approach them and what result we would like at the end of therapy. Therapy itself involves talking in sessions, and feedback from me,but also many other skill-building activities such as reading, practicing new behaviors between sessions, and doing things to reduce life stress.

Because I work with clients regarding a variety of issues; my first goal in therapy is to discuss what is bringing you into treatment and what you hope to gain from your time with a therapist. Together, we will develop a plan for how to work on the issue you are seeking to address. My training includes therapies such as : DBT, CBT, EMDR, and compassion focused therapy to name a few. I believe in getting to the root of the issue and exploring what therapeutic intervention would be the best fit to meet your needs.
