Cypress is a wonderful destination located in the heart of Texas. For those who want to enjoy the great outdoors of the state and all it has to offer, there is Bear Creek Park. This location, located on War Memorial Drive in nearby Houston, has a mini-zoo, jogging trail, and picnic tables for a perfect family summer outing. Children and teenagers can visit the Forbidden Gardens, an exhibition that teaches visitors about the wonders of ancient China. This attraction is also ideal for couples looking for a great date site. Afterwards, head back outside for a trip to Dewberry Farms, where you can enjoy a hayride through a pumpkin patch or a trip through a corn maze. For a great place to take your children and teenagers at night, stop by the authentic Showboat Drive-In for a family-friendly film. This city has numerous schools available, such as Cypress Woods High, Arnold Middle, and Farney Elementary.1

Current Initiatives

There are still over 38,000 US soldiers deployed in Afghanistan alone, and more overseas in over 150 countries.4 Cypress Cares is a Cypress community initiative dedicated to providing support to our troops overseas in the form of care packages and communicating encouragement.5 Volunteers gather items requested by the troops for care packages which can be not only a practical but a psychological form of support. The organization also gathers letters and cards from community members to send to overseas troops. Items requested for donation include non-perishable snacks and candy, hygiene items like razors, sunblock, and baby wipes, as well as miscellaneous items like CDs and DVDs, iTunes gift cards, and more. To find out how to help, or to refer a soldier, contact Cypress Cares at (281) 213-9611.
