The city of Glendale is extremely committed to supporting the arts.  One visible way this is accomplished is the prolific artwork in public spaces program.  Sponsored by the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department, several spots have displays.  Some of sites around town with artwork include the Pacific Community Center, downtown, police station, civic center, and area parks.  In addition, several school buildings feature the works as well.  The community also nurtures the next generation of artists with classes for all ages.  Also sponsored by the Parks Department, some choices are cartoon drawing, mommy and me art, stained glass, and mosaic and sculpting.  If performing arts are more your style, the Alex Theatre is a great venue for various performances.  Originally opened in 1925, the Alex started as a vaudeville theatre.  It evolved into a movie house and now serves the community as a performing arts center.  The theatre underwent a complete restoration during the 1990’s.

Many of Glendale’s residents are immigrants to the United States.  The largest Armenian community in the United States is here and represents a significant percentage of the local population. The mean family income is over $47,000 and women outnumber men.  Many households in the municipality have children under 18 years of age.  Several social organizations have chapters or local groups here.  The Salvation Army, Kiwanis Club, Optimist Club and MOMS Club are just a fraction of all of the possibilities.1 Many of these organizations greatly contribute time and talents to the local community.
