Mental Health in Missoula

Mental Health America of Montana offers a free bipolar support group to residents of the state. This unique group is conducted by phone to account for the rural nature of most Montana communities. The primary focus of the group is to help participants learn how to live more effectively with bipolar disorder. Groups meet each week for six weeks and are led by a trained facilitator who also has bipolar disorder. Groups are offered for free as well. Call 406-587-7774 to sign up.2

The Missoula Suicide Prevention Network is dedicated to developing resources to reduce the occurrence of suicide in the Missoula area. Working with local law enforcement, social service agencies, churches, schools, and other public organizations, the Prevention Network offers valuable resources for children, teenagers, and adults that help them navigate dark times in their lives in a healthy manner. Current Education

The Missoula County Public Schools offers various support programs for children with mental health issues. The Structured Learning Program serves high school students who have an emotional or behavioral disturbance. Students spend all or part of their day in the program, learning coping skills to help them manage their behavior. Social skills, communication skills, and study skills are also integral components of the program. Students acquire these tools in a safe, compassionate, and understanding environment in order to gain confidence in their abilities and boost their self-esteem.4 The district also provides programming for students who display exceptional creative or intellectual abilities. Students enrolled in the district's Gifted Education Program have access to extended learning opportunities that provide a rigorous curriculum. Students also have access mental health support in the form of sessions with school counselors.
