Philadelphia is the city of Brotherly Love and was named by William Penn, a Quaker who was granted the land by charter in 1681 by Charles XI of England in repayment of a debt. Penn wanted Philadelphia to reflect rural England and be a place where people could worship freely. The history of Philadelphia is a long and hard one beginning in the late 1800s and still continuing today. Due to the history in the area, there are events going on to commemorate the history throughout the year. You can be a part of these activities as well as enjoy the rich culture. National Historic sites include Independence National Historic Park,1 Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed and Liberty Bell. The preponderance of Victorian and Georgian architecture can be seen in the famous row houses in the north of the city.
