San Juan Capistrano is a city of over 33,000 people in southern Orange County California. The city was settled around Mission San Juan Capistrano, which was founded by Spanish priests in 1776. Many of the city's homes and businesses reflect the Spanish mission style of architecture. Current Initiatives
To help address the mental health needs of students, the Orange County Department of Education has implemented the Student Mental Health Initiative. The primary purpose of the initiative is to provide resources for schools to make early identification of mental illness a reality. Additionally, the initiative provides prevention resources to help improve the overall mental health of the county's student population. Programs for staff training are provided, so teachers and other school personnel have the tools they need to identify students with potential mental health problems. Student-based programs seek to promote resiliency, mindfulness, stress management and a host of other positive traits.
