March is traumatic brain injury (TBI) awareness month.
Armenian-American triathlete Kristin Abello, was struck by a car in 2002, while on a training run in Houston in preparation for a marathon. As a result, she sustained a TBI and other physical traumas. The initial consensus was that she wasn’t going to survive, but she did and the road to recovery was extremely difficult, including her choice to carry a high risk pregnancy. She’s now giving back, as an advocate, philanthropist and author on a mission to help others with TBI.

Over 70 per cent of cases of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) in children of all ages involved products regulated by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission. Ten per cent of TBIs in children aged 0-4 were caused by bunk beds as well as another 10 per cent by stairs, and 10 per cent by floors. In children aged 5-9, the leading causes of TBI are floors and bike accidents. Football, basketball, soccer and bike accidents were the leading causes of TBI in children and adolescents aged 10-14.

The world received a pleasant surprise during the 2015 67th Annual Emmy Awards that honors prime time television. It had nothing to do with who won outstanding writing, directing, or acting award. The spot light was on the last presenter of the last award, which once again, the surprise had nothing to do with the category, but the presenter, Tracy Morgan. It has been over a year since he had appeared in Hollywood (Rose, 2015). He has been out of the spotlight not due to unable to obtain work in film, TV, or stand up. Tracy’s absence is due to recovery from a motor vehicle accident that killed one, injured many, and left him with traumatic brain injury along with other injuries.

Bobbi Kristina Brown has been getting attention in the news because she is in a coma. On January 31, 2015, the world became aware Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of singer Bobby Brown and the late R &B dvia, Whitney Houston, was rushed to the hospital because she was found in the bathtub face down. On Tuesday, February 3, 2015 she was moved to another hospital and placed in a medical induce coma or medical coma (Botelho & Newsome, 2015). There are many questions about Bobbi’s quality of life upon awaking from her coma.
