Netflix Offers One-Year Leave for New Parents: Conflicting Emotional Reactions Result

On August 4, 2015 the streaming video company Netflix, located in Los Gatos, CA, announced a shockingly generous new policy for its employees who become parents: unlimited fully paid leave for mothers and fathers in the first year after the child’s arrival. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, this amount of time and leave is “practically unheard of”. (Lang, M.) Employees are now allowed to work as much or as little as they see fit in that first year as they adjust to bringing a new life into their family.
