In the deadliest incident in 25 years, more than 1000 people are dead and over 900 injured during the last rituals of the Hajj, the Islamic annual pilgrimage that takes place each year in Saudi Arabia. The stampede occurred during a ritual called “stoning the devil” on Thursday, with some pilgrims saving their entire lives in order to participate. The event was held in a tent city about two miles from the holy site in Islam’s holiest city, Mecca. More than 2 million pilgrims attend the Hajj in Saudi Arabia. The world received a pleasant surprise during the 2015 67th Annual Emmy Awards that honors prime time television. It had nothing to do with who won outstanding writing, directing, or acting award. The spot light was on the last presenter of the last award, which once again, the surprise had nothing to do with the category, but the presenter, Tracy Morgan. It has been over a year since he had appeared in Hollywood (Rose, 2015). He has been out of the spotlight not due to unable to obtain work in film, TV, or stand up. Tracy’s absence is due to recovery from a motor vehicle accident that killed one, injured many, and left him with traumatic brain injury along with other injuries. [More]

Dellarontay Readus, a Memphis high school grad, already made the news when he was accepted to every Ivy league school in the United States. This accomplishment was made even more amazing in understanding the obstacles Readus was up against. Growing up with just his mother, the small family struggled to make ends meet. Readus shared that he would have to take a bus every night to the public library to use the computer and internet for homework, since his mother could not afford such things at home. Despite the hurdles in his way, Readus was one of a few teens ever accepted to every Ivy league. Readus announced his enrollment at Stanford University with a full ride scholarship, but he then had to face perhaps the biggest hurdle of his life. [More]

As if inscribed today, the crisp etching “James Cockburn 8th Durham, L.I.” followed by the inscribed date “April 1, 1917” was discovered on the walls of the cave like tunnels in Naours, France. The date provided clues to the World War I time period in which thousands of soldiers left such markings in the stone walls. Archaeologist, Gilles Prilaux, made the surprising discovery while studying the Naours tunnels as a lens into the middle ages. The Naours tunnels are far from the front lines of the WWI battlefields, yet 1,821 soldiers from the U.S., Australia, Britain, and Canada made their way into the underground tunnels for reasons that are now being further explored by historians.
