Most people with anger control problems hate themselves for it. They often promise themselves to do better but then feel like situations get the better of them. They often feel misunderstood, under appreciated and somewhat disconnected from the relationships that matter the most to them. There are so many different causes for this. That is why the first step is to do a caring and thorough evaluation. In any treatment worth it's salt, a person first feels understood. Much of the time I find that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), together with interventions from positive psychology, can significantly help people to act with intention, which can often feel like being reborn.

Anger is a completely acceptable emotion, something every one of us experiences at one time or another. What is not acceptable is when anger escalates to the point of "rage". When anger reaches the that stage the person is being overly reactive to a situation and is acting out of feelings and not his or her rational thinking. When I work with clients with anger management issues I help them to understand that there are ways they can control anger so it doesn't take control of them. By helping clients understand that rage is never acceptable and providing them with strategies for staying in control, clients and their families can have safer, more meaningful, fulfilling relationships.

Anger is a perfectly normal, human response. In fact, it's actually a built in survival mechanism in humans. Disproportionate and uncontrollable anger, however, can be harmful to oneself and others. Our approach to Anger Management focuses on learning to recognize anger triggers, including both negative thought patterns and external stimuli. Our anger management clients have learned skills to calm themselves when angry, as well as healthy way to express anger.
