Corona is committed to recognizing the community through different programs such as the Neighbors Awards Program.1 This program was created, recognizing residents 18 years old and older, who demonstrate a commitment to building a strong neighborhood relationship, by bringing neighbors together to help improve the quality of life in Corona. The Celebrating Neighbors Awards Program gives the city an opportunity to publicly acknowledge and recognize a Corona residents’ selfless contribution and acts of goodwill to neighbors. Nominations can be submitted by anyone, but the criteria for nominating someone includes a person who builds good neighborhood ties, helps to create a safe, appealing and healthy neighborhood, as well as involved in neighborhood issues and projects. This type of program helps create better neighborhoods in Corona that makes residents proud of their community.
The city is also committed to redeveloping some of the areas in the community that have experienced economic and social problems. The local government, community, and private sector are involved in making these changes. In 1951, the state of California enacted a Community Redevelopment Law that provides the financing mechanism to help communities to eliminate problems as well as to create new programs through redevelopment, through creating jobs and revitalizing the business climate in the area. This will also increase the tax, attract diverse people and businesses and creating programs to help ensure that the area does not fall victim to the same problems that existed before. The city determines the areas that need the redevelopment and puts forth a plan to have approved by the city council and then moves forward with the revitalization of the community.
