Mental Health in Tulsa
Residents of Tulsa County have a high number of poor mental health days. In fact, the Oklahoma State Department of Health gives the county a grade of D when it comes to behavioral health. The county also receives a D in terms of suicide prevention. With over 14 percent of Tulsa County's resident living in poverty, many can't afford or simply don't have access to quality mental health care.2 However, through partnerships with public and private organizations, Tulsa is making strides toward improving mental health access for all.
Tulsa residents who have disabilities and who need to improve their employment skills in order to find an adequate job can participate in training courses offered by Goodwill of Tulsa. The TulsaWORKS program provides opportunities to learn life skills and essential employment skills, as well as specific skills related to the use of computers. Community Vocational Services offers transitional work training and retention services to help consumers keep their jobs. Paid work experiences and subcontracting work is available as well.
