Kent, Washington is located exactly halfway between Seattle and Tacoma. As a result, the city is a great place to live and conduct business. The largest employer in the city is the famed aircraft company Boeing, which has nearly 10,000 workers. Originally a farming area, Kent has becoming a burgeoning bedroom community with many people commuting to Seattle for work. It's proximity to such a large city makes the amenities of big city living just a short drive north. Families can enjoy the opera, a NFL football game, a trip to the Space Needle, a day out on Puget Sound and many more fun activities.1

Mental Health in Kent

An estimated 16 percent Kent's population lives at or below the poverty line.2 Financial struggles often can lead to a variety of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. To help alleviate some financial concerns, the city's most poor residents can participate in the YWCA's homeless intervention program. As individuals and families progress towards permanent housing, the YWCA also provides progressive employment training. This training involves a variety of programs, including GED and ESL preparation, occupational skills training, and job search and job placement assistance. To inquire about these programs, call the YWCA at 253-736-0010.3

Moms Offering Moms Support (MOMS) is a non-profit organization in Kent dedicated to providing resources, support, and activities for local single mothers and their kids. Fun recreational activities including book clubs, playtime with kids, movie club and field trips are offered year round. All activities are meant to give moms a feeling of camaraderie and reduce lonliness that can sometimes accompany being a stay-at-home mom with young kids. For information about joining the Kent chapter of MOMS, visit their website.4
