As both a Clinical Psychologist and a Registered Nurse, Dr. Baumgardner brings a rather unique and holistic approach to the health care of her clients. She has experience in working with people across the life-span, from newborns to the elderly, individually and in groups. In addition to providing psychological services to individuals, couples and families, Dr. Baumgardner provides consultation to corporate teams regarding change processes, metrics, conflict resolution and organization development. In addition to her private practice, she holds faculty positions at the University of Maryland within both the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing.

Dr. Baumgardner's work over the years has taught her that change is possible at any age. Early identification and early intervention with very young children can get children back to their own normal and healthy developmental trajectory. The key to change in those moving toward adulthood is appreciating that our brains benefit from neuroplasticity, or the ability to change at any stage of life. By understanding the patterns that have been created, you will appreciate how the brain functions and how to establish new pathways that will enable you to change your perceptions and actions. As you begin to understand these connections through therapy, you will be able to choose to change from the inside out. You'll have support as you practice and experience new ways of thinking and interacting with others. The connections between physical health, mental health and spiritual health will become evident as you learn how your current thinking, your behaviors and your feelings are interwoven.

Many people wonder if therapy is right for them. Sometimes parents bring their children because of concerning behaviors. Many seek psychological support as they pursue their own personal or professional exploration and growth. Working with Dr. Baumgardner can help provide insight, support and new strategies for all types of life challenges. Therapy can help address many types of issues including depression, anxiety, conflict, grief, trauma, stress, and general life transitions.  Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most out of life by taking responsibility, creating greater self-awareness, and working toward change. Therapy can provide long-lasting benefits and support, giving you the tools you need to avoid triggers, avoid recurrent damaging patterns and overcome the challenges you face.

Dr. Baumgardner wants you to enjoy your life! Her office model is that of a Psychological Home. She encourages you to come in whenever you think you could use additional support managing a significant challenge. She will help you analyze your thoughts and feelings about the situation, work with you as you collaboratively develop strategies and provide support as you put your plan into motion. Once you have successfully managed the challenge, she will encourage you to continue enjoying your life ...and simply call her the next time you want her consultation.
