Central Park is an interesting spot in the city and contains several areas worth visiting. The park uses xeriscaping, which means indigenous plants are used to conserve water. The Huntington Beach Public Library is housed within the area. Along with almost a half-million volumes, the complex has a theater, fountains and gift shop. The library was originally established with a Carnegie Foundation grant. Additional branches are scattered around the city. One feature of the park is the equestrian center. The center is a boarding facility that also offers public horse rentals. Riders can enjoy several trails located within the park. Guides accompany guests on these rides.1

Bullying is an unfortunate occurrence in many schools. To help reduce the incidence of bullying, harassment and intimidation, the Huntington Beach City School District has implemented a student behavior code that requires students to be courteous and respectful to one another, as well as to their teachers and other school personnel. Students that do not meet the requirements of the district's behavior policy can face a variety of actions, including suspension and expulsion.2 To further support positive student behaviors, Bully Awareness Resistance Education (BARE) offers many support services to Huntington Beach schools. BARE can provide educator training, presentations to students, and employ anti-bullying strategies. Current Initiatives

The Latino Health Access Children and Youth Initiative seeks to improve the health of Latino children who live in at-risk environments. Programs involve kids in leadership and character development activities, as well as educational programs that improve academic performance. By improving access to health services and educating the community about the services available in their area helps address both the mental and physical health needs of local youth.
