Mental Health in Costa Mesa

Located in the Orange County, Costa Mesa has a population of 111,918, out of which 49.1% are females while 50.9% are males.2 As an erstwhile rural town, it has commercialized significantly due to a strong tertiary sector. In the category of education, 85.1% of residents have graduated from high school or pursued higher studies subsequently.3 The unemployment rate is�9.4%, and 16.6% of residents live in poverty.

The ethnic composition is such that Caucasians form the largest group (51.8%) while at 35.8%, Hispanics form the second largest group. Among the poorer sections of the society, Hispanics form a sizeable majority. The Neighborhood Improvement Task Force of the city operates to address problems of homelessness, drugs, and crime. Children and Youth Services is another program, which targets children who are mentally ill, have anxiety disorders, depression, personality disorders, or struggle with family problems. Similarly, the Orange�County�Behavioral�Health�Services�Centralized�Assessment�Team�provides psychiatric help to patients outside hospitals.
