About Delene:
Julie Delene Penix, Licensed Professional Counselor, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Texas A&M University at Commerce in 1993.  She completed one year of graduate school at the University of North Texas in 1994-95 in counseling psychology.  She transferred to Texas A&M University in 1995 to gain the freedom to complete her field work in Christian counseling.  She completed her last year of graduate school in the counselor education program, graduating with a Master of Science degree in interdisciplinary studies from Texas A&M University at Commerce in 1996.  She completed additional coursework at Dallas Baptist University in 2012.

On a more personal, yet related note, she received Bible training from 1996-1998 and has served in various ministry capacities throughout the years, including teaching, music, and outreach.  She has worked with many populations, including adults, couples, youth, children and the hearing impaired.  She has also worked in public education as a certified teacher and as a non-certified interpreter for the hearing impaired.  She has greatly enjoyed her time at home with her children and continues to place a high priority on her time as a parent.

Delene holds to the Christian philosophy that we, others and life are imperfect, and that God walks with us through life's troubles, giving us daily strength to face life's challenges.  She believes that, although God does not impose the suffering upon us, He uses the suffering to strengthen our faith and to grow us in relationship with Him, others and ourselves.  She believes in the intrinsic value of the person and that learning new skills can empower you to find the joy and peace you desire.  She uses an eclectic approach within a Christian framework.  Her primary method of treatment is Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, and she uses some elements of Reality Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, and Family systems therapy as well.  Cognitive-Behavior Therapy is scripturally sound ("As a man thinks..., so is he") and has been shown to be clinically effective in helping people cope with most of life's challenges.  She has a passion for helping others learn new skills to blossom personally, in their marriage and/or in their family.
