be better each day…That’s all we can do….I truly believe that once we allow
ourselves, just that seemingly small success, we can then see personal growth.
I have a
background in teaching, having received my Bachelors in Science in Elementary
Education from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Right out of school I taught third grade and
have had a passion for working with children as far back as I can recall. Fairly
early on, my experience in the classroom showed me that so much of one’s home
life and their learned ways of interaction, directly impacted their success in
school. At that point I decided that my
help would be better served working with individuals (children and adults) and
families to help teach the inter- and intra-personal skills needed to function
better in life as a whole. I got out of
the classroom but continued to work with a variety of different youth programs
One of the
positions that provided me tons of insight, was being the Healthy Lifestyles
Director with the YMCA. While there, I
helped to develop health and fitness programming for children and adults and
also launched the first branch youth dance program for that area. While I had always valued the importance of
overall health and wellness, this position offered the opportunity to work with
over thousands of community members to aid in their efforts towards better
health. This work was in a different
capacity than I was accustomed. The
opportunity truly taught me the importance of finding balance, physically and
mentally, in order to lead a more productive and successful life.
decided to go back to school to obtain a graduate degree in counseling from the
University of Missouri – St. Louis. I received
a Masters in Education in Professional Counseling along with becoming a
Nationally Certified Counselor. I am currently provisionally licensed.
clients, I use a holistic approach focusing on developing a healthy mind, body
and spirit, using primarily cognitive-behavioral therapeutic techniques. This therapeutic approach is so closely
aligned with my training in education that it is truly second nature and I believe
that it is the best way to create new, healthy habits in our lives in order to
become the best version of ourselves. I
have experience helping individuals and families struggling with anxiety, anger
management, depression, grief and loss, low self –esteem, occupational stress,
parenting, relationship problems, addiction recovery, and multi-cultural issues.
If you are
ready for change..let’s do some work together!
