Welcome:  My name is Jim Garrett.  I'm a licensed clinical professional counselor and psychotherapist, and I provide counseling and psychotherapy services for individuals and couples.  To make it easier for you to get started, I offer a free phone consultation.

There are lots of very good reasons for people to seek the help of a counselor or therapist.  Individual counseling and individual psychotherapy can often be very helpful for people feeling sad, worried, frustrated, angry, confused, stressed, or simply feeling down on themselves.  Marriage counseling and couples counseling can often be very helpful for people experiencing difficulties in important relationships or simply feeling that the relationship is not meeting their needs.  And these are just a few of the concerns that a therapist can help with.

Maybe one of these issues is what brought you here, or maybe you're here out of concern for a family member or friend who could benefit from the help of a therapist.  Or maybe your reason for being here is entirely different.  Whatever it is, I can assure you that you are in good company.  Lots of people call therapists every day for help with a wide range of concerns.

Please feel free to visit my website for more information, or to simply pick up the phone and call me.  I'll be happy to help.

Guiding Principles:  Choosing a therapist can sometimes be difficult.  It's sometimes hard to know who would be most able to help you.  I believe that most people make the best choice by simply focusing on who they feel most comfortable with.  To give you a sense of who I am, I'd like to share a few of the principles that guide my work:

Counseling is Respectful - People thrive in environments rich in empathy, rich in understanding, and where there is no judging.  Counseling provides a relaxed and unhurried environment, respectful of the pace at which you want to work.  Counseling is about what you want to accomplish, not what a counselor believes should be accomplished.  Counseling can be short-term or longer-term, providing the number of sessions that you feel you need in order to accomplish what you want.  Counseling provides an opportunity to feel understood and accepted for who you are, just as you are.

Counseling is Safe - Counseling provides a safe place to talk about confidential concerns.  You decide what issues or emotions you want to talk about.  Issues or emotions that you don't wish to talk about, or are not ready to talk about are not discussed.

Counseling is Helpful - Counseling is practical,  useful, and  enables important changes.

Services Provided:  My core service offerings include Individual Counseling, Individual Psychotherapy, Marriage Counseling, and Couples Counseling.

I also offer services structured to provide an easy and cost-free way for you to get started with a counselor, and find the help you want and need.  These services include a free phone consultation.  I invite you to visit my website for more information, and of course, you're more than welcome to call me with any questions.

About Me:  My background is a little different from that of most people in my profession.  I haven't always been a clinical professional counselor and psychotherapist.  In fact, I spent the first twenty years of my professional life in the business world, primarily in business consulting, working with a variety of clients all over the country.  During those years I experienced a lot - both professionally and personally - that helped prepare me for what I do now.  Along the way, those experiences led me to make a number of important changes, including the decision to devote the second half of my professional life to helping people on a personal level in my local community.  Since 1999 I have devoted myself to the study and practice of counseling and psychotherapy.
