“I believe that making the decision to see a therapist is a sign of courage and strength, and that therapy is a unique, personal process of growth and healing for each individual.” I am an experienced, friendly, engaging, down to earth, therapist who brings warmth, humor, creativity, hope and compassion to my work with clients. My approach is supportive, focused, accepting and interactive. I place great importance on providing a safe and nurturing space, in which together we can explore your experiences, hopes, and goals.
My specialty areas include working with children and adolescents, marital and couples therapy, and grief work. I help children, teens, and families who encounter difficulties related to trouble at school, anxiety, oppositional behaviors, identity issues, low self esteem, sibling conflicts, divorce, ADHD, depression and grief. Being a mother of two boys, I understand that the parents are truly the experts in really knowing their children inside and out. I work collaboratively with the family, to formulate the best plan of action to help their child. I utilize play therapy and expressive art therapies with the children I work with, seeing positive results.
I am skilled at helping teens cope with the stresses of adolescence. When I work with teens, I listen deeply, reflect, and provide a non-judgmental, solution focused atmosphere. I take the time to really get to know what is going on in their lives, their schedules, interests, and what is important to them. Journaling, art and music therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy are some of the techniques I utilize.
Marriage and couples counseling is my other area of expertise. Having been trained in Imago relationship therapy, I offer couples easily designed ways to better relate, increase closeness and intimacy, create healthy boundaries, and work through projections and triggers. Helping couples better communicate with each other about what each person needs to feel loved, cared for, connected, and safe, and changing hurtful behavior is an important part of this specialized therapy. I take pride in having helped many couples re-connect, improve their relationships, and grow together.
For the past 23 years, I have helped many children, adolescents, adults, and couples with grief and loss. The death of a family member, loved one, or pet is a profound emotional experience. Helping people through the stages of grief has encompassed a lot of my professional experience. I offer much support, empathy, and compassion to my clients going through these difficult life transitions. In my grief work with children, I utilize bibliotherapy and art therapy as an additional tool for help in healing.
“My mission is help my clients achieve their goals, find comfort and peace, and to live a joyful, healthy, fulfilling life.”
