Kathryn Kinsey, LCSW
Individual counseling can be a powerful adjunct to participation in a recovery program. I work only with adults recovering from alcohol or drug addiction who participate fully in a 12 step program. Adult children of alcoholics and individuals struggling with codependency issues benefit from a combination of individual counseling and group participation. Treatment includes identifying triggers to addictive behaviors, using fully the supportive community of A.A., N.A., CODA, or Al-Anon, and developing internal controls to maintain sobriety.

Dino Di Donato, MFT, MS, M.Ed Counseling
I work with individuals who have determined that they are suffering from addiction. I encourage my clients to be actively involved in support groups and/or out patient treatment in conjunction with their counseling with me. If the situation seems to be immovable I will recommend residential treatment. I take a mindfulness approach to recovery which seems to have the most effective results over a longer period of time for most people.

I have been helping individuals and families deal with the addictions for more than 30 years. Whether the addict or the co-dependent, the Developmental Model of recovery is the most advanced approach to treating the addictions, and is the model I use, which was the mainstay of my post-doctoral internship at Stanford University in the 1980's, and still is today. You will find a safe place to develop a recovery plan while maintaining your dignity. If you prefer to continue your addiction, that's your business. If you want to stop your addiction, i can help. If you're not sure, let's talk about it. I will never tell you what to do, but i will tell you what you can do for recovery.

Given the ego-mind (and its narcissism) is the root of all addictions, coming into presence and witnessing the mind opens space to be clean, sober and sane. At root all addictions share this: it has the person, while the person holds the illusion he or she has it; the addict cannot stop; and it takes more of the substance / activity to get the same kick over time (tolerance). Benefits from addiction counseling are: living your own life instead of handing it over to your mind and its past conditioning / survival decisions; ending the inner war, ambivalence and destructive acting out; being able to tolerate feelings without acting out; and learn relapse prevention tools to sustain sobriety.

I work with a lot of people who are in recovery, who may or may not be in an addiction support program such as 12-step programs. All addictions are attempts to regulate the nervous system. Nervous systems get dysregulated as the after-effect of unresolved trauma. Being a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I use the tools of SE to help clients learn to regulate their nervous systems so the constant unconscious drive to use in order to get relief from anxiety and depression dissipates.

I have extensive experience working with Addictions. Particularly with Sex addiction, Love addiction, and internet addiction. My treatment methods have proved to be very effective and successful. I first work on ceasing the problematical behaviors. This usually is able to occur quite rapidly. We then work on dealing with the underlying problems. In life from birth through death we are continually dealing with stressors. And when the stressors become overwhelming we begin to find ways of alleviating the pain of the stressors. Hence, for many an addiction is born which frequently begins a cycle of self-destructive and inappropriate behaviors. My job with you is to illuminate the stressors, help you learn more positive ways of coping and ultimately to help eliminate the self-destructive behaviors and bring you forth into a more harmonious and healthy sense of self and life.

It is often the most sensitive and intelligent people in our society who struggle with addiction. How else can we tolerate the injustices, the coldness, the uncertainty, and the losses that come with life and world we live in?
People hide away in their busy schedules, drown their thoughts in television, numb their emotions with food, sex, shopping and big purchases, or escape altogether through the use of drugs and alcohol.
Maybe we never saw people dealing with and “working through” their feelings of anger, frustration, overwhelm, grief, depression, anxiety, disappointment, and shame in a healthy way. Maybe we just haven’t yet found our own way.
No matter how subtle, the cost of substan....

One of my specialties is working with adult children of alcoholics. I Have served as a consultant to a hospital drug and alcohol recovery program My practice includes individual and group psychotherapy along with twelve step programs. Addictions represent familial diseases and often repeat patterns in behavior and spousal selections leading to self destruction. My approach is treating the whole person by using community resources as well as family interventions.

There are so many different approaches to treating substance abuse and addiction. Without shame or judgement I work with clients to help them uncover the underlying pain that often maintains addictive behaviors. I encourage clients to take back control of their lives by exploring and understanding their unique relationship with the addictive substance or behavior. Clients can learn to make different, healthier choices and will begin to feel that they really do deserve a better way of life. This increase in self worth and new found peace can guide clients as they heal from within and work to improve the relationships in their lives.
Jill Kane, Psy.D.
Addiction is a treatable illness. All that is required is that you want to stop using the substance(s). Therapy can help you overcome your addiction. Not all people fit into the AA model, although all people could benefit from the support. Even without the 12 steps, I can help you think about your cravings and your triggers so we make a plan to help you stop using - and stay stopped.

If you are moving into recovery from drugs and alcohol I am here to support your path to strength and growth.
From many years of experience with those in early or later recovery from addiction, I would like very much to offer you effective ways of staying present, yet getting underneath where your substance issues began and how to move back into a sober and healthier life. There are often specific career and relationship factors that need to be healed or started anew in a fresh way...often both! I am here to give you that guidance towards adjusting to substance free feelings safely.
It can be a great benefit to have support in gently allowing awareness of avoided emotions again.

Most of the clients I see in my job as Mental Health Clinician for Solano County have a diagnosis that includes substance abuse. I believe that substance abuse can be overcome through various behavioral and psychotherapeutic approaches and I readily apply these techiques to my treatment plan. I also rely on the assistance of outside groups such as Alcoholics Anonoymous and NA. Sexual addiction is an area of importance in our society and I can work with people who are preoccupied with self-destructive sexual behavior, too.

The disease of addiction has many causes: the social environment; the developmental years as a child, adolescent and teenager; and, biological forces that are inborn, genetic or part of a personality trait. We must know the past and present to change the future. We need to understand the patient from the patient’s point of view to help us develop a more person-specific and individualized treatment plan. The goal is a lifestyle free of mood altering substances. If you’re not ready for group therapy or an in-patient/out-patient rehabilitation program, please give ma a call or drop me a note now for a free 20 minute assessment. 1-510-495-4826 or tgondajr@earthlink.net
