In working with Addiction, I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and EMDR. EMDR is traditionally seen as a technique specifically used in working with trauma. This is true and most of the time, addiction is rooted in trauma so it can be helpful as a dual diagnosis approach. However, EMDR can also be used specifically to help with addictions because it can be used to desensitize triggers for using and help clients maintain sobriety.

Addiction is something that helps us feel better. Here's where it comes from. As kids, we're supposed to bond in a healthy way with our parents. It's through this bond with our parents that we learn how to regulate ourselves. When we don't bond in a healthy way, or don't learn how to self-regulate through our connection with our parents, we need to do it some other way. That's where addiction comes from. If we can learn to create the feelings that our addiction gives us on our own - joy, bliss, relaxation, connection, etc., and combine that with nutritional support that gives our brain the right chemicals, we can move forward. I'm here to support you in getting to the root and doing that.

We can use mindfulness techniques to work with difficult emotions or a lack of emotions day to day. Exercise, diet, sleep and many daily activities can be utilized to help with difficult times. Self care is an exploration. I support the use of medications when needed depending on what you want to do. I take an individualized approach so the process depends on how you want to approach it and what your needs are.
