Some people are born with a "quick temper," and if that describes you, it doesn't mean that can't change. You can learn tools both to manage your anger, as well as new and effective ways to communicate and resolve conflicts without getting angry. Uncontrolled anger and a lack of conflict management tools are two major causes of relationship contention. You can have a life in which you control your anger instead of your anger controlling you!

Anger is an emotion that we all experience from time to time. For some people anger is an emotion they begin to feel occurs more frequently and/or with more intensity. When anger reaches its boiling point for some people it becomes uncontrollable and extremely problematic. What most people don't know is that anger is a secondary emotion that is usually masking much deeper and more vulnerable emotions, such as sadness, fear or loneliness. Counseling helps get to the root of these primary emotions. It's also to learn to identify our emotional triggers and manage them so we are able to communicate our emotions and stress in a healthy and less aggressive way.

Angger is all about control. You see something as out of control or you perceive that an injustice has been done. Anger is a real emotion. It comes as a defense mechanism for pain, loss, and sadness and hurt. When you feel like your life is out of control, anger provides the feeling of power in the moment, but in the long term it is destructive. The motivation of anger destroys us as individuals and it decimates relationships. No relationship is strong enough to hold up under long term anger. The solution is found in the most difficult thing we do as human beings: to forgive ourselves and others. Let me help you find healing. Give me a call.

Grey Matters International and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D approaches issues of anger management in a very humane yet fresh perspective. You see, anger is a normal emotion but it is the valence (intensity) as well as the coupling choice of what one does with this that is the problem. Telling someone to "not" do it or modifying behavior with a trite psychological plan that only breeds a compliant response is not the way to change anger. Brainwave optimization is a new cutting edge technology that allows one to rewire circuitry responsible for reactivity driving the anger. Anger is a completely normal, instinctive, human emotion. But it can easlily become out of control and turn destructive and agressive, leading to problems at work and in personal relationships. Anger can make you feel at the mercy of unpredictable, outside stressors. In therapy, clients learn problem solving and better communicaiton skills for expressing their anger. They also investigate triggers from past hurts that are affect responses. Through therapy you can learn to change the way such events affect you and form and implement new habits of response.

Anger is an emotion that I believe to be very powerful. Anger is powerful because the emotion can consume one's thoughts, feelings, and actions, negatively. Without practice or good copings skills to managing anger, anger may take control of one's life. Let's not let this happen. Together, we can learn about anger by resolving conflicts with ourselves and others, identify triggers and frustrations, re-examine irrational beliefs, and use healthier responses.

I am of the school of though that anger is a "secondary emotion," a reaction to other "primary emotions" that are often more subconscious and more distressing, such as fear, vulnerability, mortality, and feelings of inadequacy. My work in this domain helps clients to peel away at angry feelings and behaviors that serve as the poison that we mix up for others, but end up drinking ourselves.
