James Foster & Associates, COUNSELINGNH

540 Chestnut Street, Manchester, New Hampshire 03101

James Foster & Associates provides counseling for children. Some issues that are addressed are behavior problems, school issues, sibling rivalry, divorce, blended families, trauma and stress. The child's parent(s) will come for an initial intake appointment to provide background information of the problem area. The child would then be assessed by the clinician. Upon assessing the child, the Clinician will meet with the parent(s) to discuss the treatment plan and to move forward with play therapy. Parent's participation in either individual and/or collateral appointments may be necessary to process parenting experiences and difficulties with the child.

As a previous middle school counselor, I have had many years of experience working with pre-teens and adolescents. I have helped many children suffering from general anxiety, specific phobias (including but not limited to school phobia, specific food phobias, fear of vomitting, performance anxieties, test anxiety, etc.) I have also helped children with depression, OCD behaviors (including skin picking, nail biting, and hair pulling. Lastly, I have worked with school issues (including ADHD issues, self esteem and confidence and social issues.) Please visit my website for more information:

Young children who experience symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, oppositional behaviors, aggression, poor peer relationships, or academic problems are a joy to work with. I require a parent to be present when I work with children under 6 years old, as the parent must learn how to repeat what we do in the session at home. I use play therapy, expressive arts therapy, and animal assisted therapy with young children, as I've found these to be the most effective interventions. Parents can participate in family therapy with their child, and sometimes we may meet separately to discuss their child's treatment. One great thing about counseling children is that they are so capable of change.
