I am a retired teacher who taught parenting for twenty five years and have a child development background. I work with parents developing skills to add in helping with discipline, school performance, and social skills. I listen to children and use art and play therapy to identify unconscious problems that may be causing stress or that may have occurred outside of the parents knowledge or understanding.

Counseling young children is a specialization many people do not have experience doing. We focus on younger children's behaviors where we combine individual counseling and parent sessions to help you understand why your child is acting this way and enhance the communication between one another. I tend to take less of an approach of "talk therapy" and more of an approach of "play therapy" with young children. Children have a hard time expressing emotions, but letting them play it out or create me a picture tells me more sometimes than words can. I'm also trained in sandtray therapy, which is using small toys in a small sandbox to tell me the story or problem. Depending on the age, I do see young children individually. I also may suggest seeing them with the family to work on how this one individual is affecting everyone.
