The Bible is my favorite counseling tool. Scripture, in its proper context, speaks loudly to us about all the issues that we face in a most personal and meaningful way. Romans 5 describes the process well with the onset of suffering leading us to perseverance, character and hope. We learn to apply scripture appropriately as well as how to listen and apply the counseling of the Holy Spirit. It is about relationship and understanding as we become one with Him.

When Jesus talked about loving your enemies, He might have had our own internal "enemies" in mind as well, and in therapy that means first understanding them, and then healing them. Being a Christian Psychologist, at least to this clinician, has little to do with doctrine. I am open to a client with questions, but not likely to bring up religion myself.
