I recognize that each couple is unique, in their approach to life and to each other. I would focus on their strengths, especially as work on their problematic areas began. I encourage open communication but discourage name calling; I also encourage the use of "I feel" statements. I would be interested in their individual life histories in that the baggage we bring to relationships cannot be removed, but responses to behavior can be altered. And sometimes awareness of why an individual acts and/or feels a certain way can be quite helpful.
Michael Stoller, LCSW
It today’s world, I find it hard to believe that any relationship can work that well without some couples therapy. I help couples look at how their family of origin contributes to their relationship with their partner. Too often this is a blind spot and can’t be seen alone. I work with couples mostly around communication issues, parenting, intimacy, and healthy ways to argue. I enjoy doing pre-marital counseling and find that setting a good foundation for the relationship prior to marriage makes a huge difference in the long run. I use mostly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with couples but will use the style of therapy that makes the most sense for each individual couple.

I believe in the power of Couples Counseling when there seems to be many differences coming between the two of you, and you are starting to see one another in a negative light. In my approach, I see that each person in the relationship brings to it their own wounds from the past, when then tend to play out between one another. Sessions are a safe place to begin to open up, share and talk about not only the problems of today, but understand how the past creates the future with the goal of healing in mind. Couples counseling can feel empowering to both partners and with that comes the ability for growth, change, and healthier choices for the future.

I work with couples of all kinds experiencing any type of problems in their relationships. It is very common for couples to experience an increase in the amount and intensity of conflict within their relationship during times of major life changes, and thus I specialize in counseling couples making the transition to parenthood and provide both pre-marital and pre-commitment counseling as well. I can help you learn how to better deal with the stress that might be negatively impacting your relationship and can teach you constructive communication skills to reduce conflict and re-establish those old feelings of connection, closeness, and and comfort.

I have been married for almost 25 years and I know from personal experience as well as my work with clients that your relaitnship can improve. It takes work on both sides, a desire to change some things within yourself and a beleif in your partners ability to change. We are constantly evolving so change is possible. Couples therapy is akin to marriage counseling for me. Again I try to address any underlying issues and like to see each partner seperately at least once. Often times one person is in crisis and the couples relationsip is seriously affected. Sometimes it's a matter of helping one person to learn how to support the other and to help foster healthier communication.

Couples work is a favorite of mine. It's important to look at how we communicate with each other and how that impacts our partners. I work with people who are dating, engaged, married, and/or contemplating separation or divorce. It is my goal to instill boundaries, educate couples on how to communicate more efficiently, and to hopefully find some kind of resolution to the factors that have brought the couple to my office in the first place.

Couples counseling in one of my areas of expertise. Many clinicians refer couples to me because of my years of success in working with this population. I believe each couple brings in their own unique set of circumstances, thus I do not use one standard "formula" in my approach. You will find your time in therapy with me as an experience of feeling respected, being deeply understood, with the ultimate result of positive and constructive change in your relationship. Are you ready to find fulfillment and joy in your partnership? If so, then please contact me at your convenience.

I have experience working with couples, whether in dating relationships or marriage, to learn better communication and relational skills and improve their relationships. I've worked with issues, such as infidelity, trust issues, losses, separation and divorce, financial struggles, blended families and parenting skills, and have completed Marriage Works, a 30 -hour training program through the American Association of Christian Counselors.
North Shore Center for Marital Therapy
We believe, we offer the most effective, rapid help for couples available. This therapy is not appropriate for those with severe mental illness, addictions or abuse. However for those couples not dealing with these issues, our results have been extraordinarily successful for 22 years. We offer marital, premarital and relationship counseling with the goal of successful termination within 4-12 visits. Our average length of treatment has been 6 visits for 22 years, often with cases that have previously failed in marital therapy elsewhere.
Donald Olund, MA, LCPC, NCC
Some of my clients call it a gift. I know it is my passion. Couples counseling is a perfect fit for me. I get energized whenever a new couple comes to see me. As a communication, relational specialist, I get to know my couples individually and as a couple by taking time to carefully listen and understand them. This allows me the opportunity to help them understand each other and where they are likely stuck in their relationship. Once I identify the negative pattern, I assist the couple in shifting the pattern into one that is mutually respectful, caring, accommodating, and enriching. As a result of my extensive couples work I am currently writing a book on respectful relationships.

Robert Dargel, LCSW, CEAP, CADC
My primary area of expertise is couples counseling. I have focused on this type of therapy for more than 25 years. I have had extensive advanced training and worked with hundreds of couples. My best training in doing couples counseling, however, is that I have been in a long-term relationship. Putting our lives together with another person is challenging and forces us to be better at managing our feelings. We have to develop skills in acceptance as well as communication. We need to feel and know that our partner understands us and cares about us. Our partner needs that from us too! I can help you get better at being there for your partner and your partner being there for you.
Mary Lynn Meyers, LCSW
I have worked with couples in a variety of stages of stress and conflict in their relationships - from those who have just begun to experience problems to those who are in intense conflict. Research shows that the earlier in a relationship or marriage that a couple engages in trying to explore and examine the trouble causing emotional and behavioral patterns of the relationship , the more successful and effective the therapy can be. And, although it is preferential to work with both members of a couple in therapy, one individual can work on the relationship on their own and still see enormous benefits from the therapy.
