In a 'partnership' each partner brings with them into the relationship hopes and expectations. They also bring memories that are sitting just below the surface. When something happens that feels bad these memories will be triggered so not only will they react to the situation in the present but also to the past. This applies to both good and bad memories, but it is not the good things that give us trouble! Our work together is to make sure each partner is understood, clearly and to discover how each can have their needs met.

Family Systems theory is primarily focused on three areas. These are individuals, couples, and families (including children). Couples therapy focuses exclusively on the couple's dyad. This connection is affected by many factors: Past childhood experiences of family life, current parenting and grandparenting, blended families after a divorce, intimacy, sexuality, employment stress, financial obligations, and supporting your parents even when you are an adult. This list, though not exhaustive, points to the complexity of couplehood. I specialize in working with couples in crisis because of a betrayal, trauma, PTSD, addictions, and ADHD. I am a registered gestalt therapist with somatic experiencing training out of California. Effective couples counselling should always centre on the emotional bond and hidden, problematic communication between two people. By establishing the relationship as my client and using structured Emotionally Focussed Therapy techniques I am able to provide a non-blaming, safe space in which couples can learn to become emotionally available to one another and develop deeper, healthier and more secure attachments bringing about positive, lasting intimacy.

I offer Gottman Method Couples Therapy which is an evidence-based practice derived from decades of collected data with effective tools for couples to address areas of weakness and strengths within the relationship. This will entail a rigorous assessment process to determine treatment plan. I will be guiding the couples throughout the session and will be supporting couples coping tools during sessions.
