Life can be difficult. When we feel alone, lonely, rejected, unfulfilled, abused, or powerless, we can become depressed. I believe that if we try to resist depression and "just think positive," we can be left feeling worse about ourselves or our situations. However, if we "lean in" and listen, we can discover unmet emotional needs and a renewed sense of meaning. I believe that depression serves a purpose, it clues us in that we need to slow down and be more attentive to our needs. In a safe, supportive environment, my goal is to help you listen to and embrace the part of yourself that is in pain and, together, we'll make sense of the sadness and rediscover joy and happiness.

Research has shown cognitive-behavioral therapy is as effective as medication in the treatment of depression, and without the side effects. I use cognitive-behavioral therapy as my primary method of treating depression but also use clinical hypnosis as an additional way to reach through the blues. Depression doesn't need to be clinically debilitating before therapy can be beneficial. Situational feelings of being down, post-partum blues or depression, or even a general feeling of "the blahs" can all be improved upon with supportive counseling.

We offer hope to get out of that rut that depression sometimes causes. We see that you are not "depressed" and that "depression" can convince us of things that are not true. We offer many skills to help decrease the symptoms. Some of these skills are DBT (dialectical behvaioral therapy) skills. We also have many therapists with different modalities and different approaches to this.

I work from a foundation of Humanistic Psychology and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. As a humanistic therapist, I’ll help you to more deeply value yourself and feel the power that lies within you. When people become more connected with their value and power, self-esteem, relationships with others, productivity, and happiness all tend to improve. With Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I’ll help you examine and alter your negative thinking patterns, which can lead to negative feelings, beliefs or behaviors. Then, I’ll help you try out new, more effective behaviors, which eventually become new habits when practiced on a regular basis. My ultimate goal with clients is to work myself out of a job! In other words, I want to help you to become your own most trusted advisor and friend.

Does your child or teen complain of feeling tired for no reason or sad for no reason? Are they having trouble sleeping and then trouble waking up in the morning? Maybe their emotions are really close to the surface and they are irritable and snappy, or they are highly critical of themselves and/or others. Whatever the combination of symptoms, it is clear they are unhappy and need help. As a child psychologist, I use a combination of Cognitive-behavioral therapy (the way in which thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected), mindfulness, and self-care to support your child and treat their depression.
