Cognitive behavioral interventions will help the client reduce depressive symptoms, and increase assertive cognitive and affective expressions. I teach cognitive restructuring, with relaxation training to increase self awareness and honor the emotional story and narrative that accompanies the depressive symptoms. Each story and narrative is unique and I honor them and encourage this expression. At times if the person is blocked and is unaware of what they are thinking, I utilize a solution focused exercise to externalize the problem with a visual image and picture. This gives the client the ability to understand the power of their depression over their life, and make positive changes.
