Everyone experiences sadness at some point in their lives, particularly after a loss. And many of us also have had the thought at sometime or another, "I wish I could just go to bed and not wake up." But what sets apart clinical depression from severe sadness is how long the sadness has been occurring, how intense it feels, and how much in interferes in the daily activities of life. It has been fulfilling for me to assist in moving clients from the depths of despair to regaining the ability to feel like themselves again.

Gaining social support, changing lifestyles, and finding the right therapist is the key to treating depression. Once therapy is started, I immediately begin to examine the client’s relationships (past & present), begin setting healthy boundaries, and start tackling life stressors. Clients will begin to change the way the think about a stressor, and as a result, feel better, and act appropriately in response to the stressors. Depression Therapist

Kevin Fleming Ph.D.

Coach/Change Agent/Consultant

San Antonio, TX 78207

Grey Matters International, Inc. and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D. handles depression and other emotional disorders in a very unique way. Most of therapy or counseling processes utilize validation, unconditional positive regard, and reframing as common techniques to get someone to heal from their depression. Though this can be helpful, it rarely fixes the core problem behind it and for tough cases we then refer them usually to a psychiatrist for medication which can have tons of side effects. Instead, why not try a natural and arguably more effective way to not just change your mind, but change the brain--where the depression is rooted. Contact us at kevin@kevinflemingphd.com.

Let's take a look at your level of sadness through questionnaires and reports from loved ones to see if what you are experiencing is within the normal range or beyond that. If it is more than what is generally experienced, you may benefit from a doctor's care treating depression with medicine. If your sadness and lack of hope are manageable, or medication is required, we will work to find out what is causing distress, learn skills which promote resolution of sadness, help you to cope with life, help to open up healthy communication and resolve conflicts with those important to you, and maintain an active lifestyle which promotes fitness and improved mood for your life.

Depression takes such an intense toll not only in the quality of our life but also of those that live around us. Sometimes it is necessary to seek the aid of medication to get past this difficult moment in our lives and at times we are able to gain tools and abilities to help keep depression at bay. With the use of Neurofeedback I can offer an alternative to treatment without having to stop taking medication at first, together we can fight depression from taking hold of our lives.

I approach Depression as I do any other "feeling state". Simply, everyone experiences the same emotions, as mentioned above in the paragraph about grief. As unpleasant as it seems, I believe that it MUST have a purpose and once that purpose is satisfied the feeling goes back into the background until it is needed again. I encourage the use of medications for a while, as a part of the therapeutic experience, and I've been told that the combination seems to work very well for a lot of people. My focus is positive and I encourage the same from my clients.

Is something getting you down? Is life not going as planned? Life throws us curves sometimes and we may feel stuck due to behaviors, influences, and circumstances. I enjoy counseling individuals who are struggling with a variety of circumstances. I use an eclectic approach to counseling. This means that I am trained in numerous therapeutic approaches. In a counseling session we will explore emotional and cognitive barriers, past and present relationships, and collaboratively devise therapy goals. I would like to help assist you in a safe and therapeutic environment to provide some tools, support, or coping and problem solving skills in a nonjudgmental and caring environment.

The difference between sadness and depression is vast. Sadness fades over time and when a situation gets better then the persons mood improves. Sadness also generally has a situational cause. The same cannot be said of depression. It is relentless and persistent and does not go away just because situations around you get better. It feels like a dark cloud following you around on what would be a sunny day to anyone else. I have worked with hundreds of individuals or the past 10 years of inpatient work to help them understand and work toward better management of their depression.
