A session with me is not formulaic. You are allowed to come in just as you are with whatever is emergent for you that day. This dynamic will shape how the therapy goes. While I have many helpful techniques, I do not have an agenda for you. I will meet you where you are at and the goal will be to begin to establish a therapeutic relationship allowing you to feel comfortable and safe and to find the relief or personal growth you seek.

The primary purpose of psychotherapy, as I see it, is to help the client gain insight that will motivate him or her to better their lives. Even if the insight is recognizing the difference between what one can and cannot control, a client learns to focus his or her attention to what can be changed, while learning ways to accept or manage those aspects of life that are out of our control. Furthermore, the goal of psychotherapy is to not make the client into a miniature version of the counselor but to help the client discover whom he or she wants to be in order to lives a fulfilling and rewarding life.

I draw from a variety of Experiential techniques (psychotherapy methods that work directly in session, with your present inner experience) to uncover painful perspectives held by distressed, inner-conflicted parts--which can take over & cloud your view of life. My preferred method is Internal Family Systems (IFS) which allows us to safely get to know the story & wisdom each part holds about the source of distress & what you need to heal. Listening in this mindful, compassionate way, to parts holding guilt, shame, anxiety, despair, burdens & conflicts allows for new understanding of conditions needed to heal. IFS teaches you how to soothe your internal system, whenever life challenges occur.

My main approach is cognitive-behavior therapy. This means exploring how your core values and experiences influence the thoughts and emotions behind your actions. You will learn how to recognize and correct thinking errors. I also use a variety of techniques for Gestalt Therapy. Many of my clients find it useful to do role plays before having tough conversations with family members or bosses.

My primary modalities are Brainspotting and EMDR. I believe that empathy is the cornerstone of all healing. By being empathetic, I can become more attuned into how to best help you discover what is inhibiting you from moving forward and living life to the full. Sometimes it is a situation or a malady that is creating your roadblock, by partnering up with someone from the outside looking in – even the strongest of "disorders" can be overcome. I believe in identifying, not denying, in order to take steps forward. At its’ worst, moving forward without shame is freedom and I am about helping people move forward.
