Within my private practice, I offer psychotherapy services for adults who seek mental health care. I provide individual and psychotherapy. I provide care for a variety of concerns ranging from depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorders, grief and loss, relationship concerns and life transitions. Receiving therapy for the areas you are struggling with can help promote new ways of thinking, feeling and coping with you and your life. Trying to go it alone and figure out the tough times can only make it more difficult. Therapy is really about joining with an experienced professional to help you consider alternatives that never seemed possible. Therapy can be a step of healing.

When people think of psychotherapy or psychologists, they usually think "mental health problems". I believe that nearly everyone can benefit from a bit of therapy--call it "Mental Floss" to crib from a popular T-shirt. As a result, my approach to therapy starts with the belief that everyone hits bumps in the road, and that those bumps are easier smoothed out working alongside someone supportive. I also believe most everyone generally has what they need to resolve their roadblocks but they might need a few more tools and some guidance in how to use them. I have worked in a variety of settings and can help smooth out bumps alongside you.

There are many approaches to psychotherapy. As a PhD psychologist and marriage–family therapist for over 28 years my approach has been highly influenced by the executive coaching and consulting work I've done in the business world where there is a high demand for results. Many clients have given feedback that I'm much more active and involved compared to therapists they've seen in the past, and they appreciate this rather than just sitting back and listening without much comment. I have a very strong desire and commitment to help every client that I see make major changes in their life leading to greater fulfillment and happiness—this is what I strive for with every individual!

Psychotherapy is a process where I will work with you to determine the best direction to meet your therapeutic goals and needs. Psychotherapy helps people to:
•Understand behaviors, emotions and ideas that may contribute to the problem and learn how to modify them
•Understand and identify events or life problems –like loss of a job, divorce, problems at school, a major illness, death or divorce- that contribute to your problems and help you understand those aspects you have the ability to solve or improve.
•Learn skills to calm yourself, coping techniques and problem-solving skills
•Regain a sense of pleasure in life and a sense of control in your decisions

With my adult and adolescent clients, I work as a supportive coach and collaborator. I believe in setting therapy goals and, when appropriate, assigning homework (practicing and working on goals between sessions can bring change and healing much more quickly).
I work from a foundation of Humanistic Psychology and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
As a humanistic therapist, I’ll help you to more deeply value yourself and feel the power that lies within you. When people become more connected with their value and power, self-esteem, relationships with others, productivity, and happiness all tend to improve.
With Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I’ll help you examine and alter your negative thinking patterns, which can lead to negative feelings,...(view profile to read more)

A respectful, collaborative, optimistic and holistic approach is used. People are best understood based on how they relate to others. This is rooted in the patterns learned in their most significant relationship experiences – usually their relationship with their parents. So your family history is very important.
Since reality and meaning are created by you, what you think about your problem and yourself is very important. It is also significant what is happening for you in the present moment, in the therapy room and in the therapeutic relationship. Your problems will be undermined by looking at some of your beliefs about yourself, the world and how you might be unknowingly perpetuating the

The type of psychotherapy I practice is predominantly cognitive behavior therapy(CBT). CBT looks at feelings, thoughts, and behaviors and how changes in one of these areas can influence the other two. I enjoy working through specific situations and specific thoughts clients struggle with so change can begin. I also use mindfulness strategies, family systems theory and other therapeutic approaches as circumstances necessitate.

Often people enter therapy feeling "stuck" in some area of their life - they have tried everything they can think of and still the feeling or situation persists. It shows great determination, resilience, and wisdom that you are reaching out to a professional at this point. Together we can work to understand how this situation came about, uncover what your real wants and needs are, and realistically consider what your options are for moving forward. If you are taking the initiative to look into therapy, then I am endlessly optimistic about your ability to make the changes you'd like to see.
