Vallejo, California is located in Solano County, in the San Francisco Bay area, and is the county's largest city. Home to the famous Six Flags theme park, and near the beautiful coast and Pacific Ocean, it is the perfect family vacation stop.1 With so many fun and exciting things to do, Vallejo makes a great place to simply relax and unwind, letting the stresses of life disappear for a while. Once the capital of California, if even for a short time, Vallejo has a rich history that is evident for anyone who comes to visit. Additionally, several famous musicians and artists have their roots here.

Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Vallejo

Domestic abuse is an unfortunate reality for many couples and families in the Vallejo area. Approximately 40 percent of women in California will face violence at home at some point in her life. The majority of these women have young children in the home as well.2 As a result, women and children are most often in need of intervention, prevention and support services. Additionally, women and children are more likely to develop depression, anxiety, and PTSD due to abuse in the home. However, access to care and support can be challenging at times.

Families who have adopted a child, want to adopt a child, or want to serve as foster families can find the resources and support they need at Alternative Family Services (AFS). AFS is committed to placing children in the foster care system into permanent homes. The AFS Fost-Adopt program allows individuals and families who want to adopt a child to serve first as a child's foster parent, then once the child is legally free to be adopted, they become a permanent member of the family. Transitional services are offered for youth in the foster care system in order to make the transition into a new home a smooth one. Many other family support services are available. Additional information is available by calling the AFS Vallejo office at 707-648-2000.3

Family Services and Assistance Programs

The Catholic Social Service of Solano County recognizes that many families need assistance and support from time to time. Homeless residents can get help finding permanent housing. Families who struggle to pay all their bills can get temporary financial assistance as well. Vallejo residents who have recently immigrated to the country can take advantage of a number of immigration services, including processing of immigration and naturalization papers. There are also various educational support groups available to Vallejo residents, including anger management and parenting skills. For more information about these programs, call 707-644-8909.4
